永远无怨的是我的双眼

who so boldly stirred the icy cold?
to those who've known, the illusive & aloof phantom,
has truly become a mere specter of bygones.
illusory! the upturned crescent on thy face
betray the furrowed brows
disturbed! the big pictures in thy mind
manifest the harsh cancellations
wrath! igniting something so foreign, yet inert
consuming frustration, seething, scary
but a mere stanza of life
a chapter that has finally closed.

------------------------------------------------

done as much as i could have, my dear
the unreal "what could have been"s don't matter anymore
upsetting, but necessary
uplifted & relieved.

life's but mere fleeting moments pieced together

GO AWAY!
stop crossing my path on the roads,
don't get jammed on the PIE in the lane next to mine
don't merge into the lane that i'm driving on
"SFH _ _ _ _ A" please don't appear in my life
my heart just simply can't bear the ache everytime u appear!

significant insignificance

-Alan Parson's Project: Eye in the sky-

"Don't think sorry's easily said
Don't try turnin' tables instead
You've taken lots of chances before
But I ain't gonna give anymore
Don't ask me
That's how it goes
Cause part of me knows what you're thinkin

Don't say words you're gonna regret
Don't let fire rush to your head

I've heard the accusation before
And I ain't gonna take any more
Believe me
The sun in your eyes
Made some of the lies worth believing"

significant insignificance of our existence

hardest sacrifice

to hate would require energy to remember
to love, allows us to forgive ourselves.

The forsaken & the wiser

To truly appreciate the last moment of Beethoven's 9th symphony, we appreciate too the moments just before the end.

Had they been any less complete, the symphony would not have ended with as much beauty and grandeur.

When there were a million and one reasons to give up,
and intuition cautioned that any good intention will be charged by your darkened court as a suspect

Remembering that consequences are often largely beyond our control,
yet what is considered "good" consequence is often the very point at issue

Why stubbornly believe in mere promises?

A runner wins the marathon not by being 1st,
The runner wins by reaching the finish line,
overcoming the magnitude of obstacles and challenges along the way.

Completing the arduous race, regardless, IS running a good race.

Not wanting to forsake the race, forgo my due rewards
or blame my mistaken choice to run,
or even to amputate the seemingly tired and worn.

Remembering that in Life's marathon, obstacles train us to be stronger.
To move forward, we need to keep our eyes on the big picture
whilst having patience, a discerning heart and courage.

Fortunately, or otherwise
The humbled go-getter now sets her sights
on sowing the seeds to become a better individual.

Simple & real.

out of the closet

quoting from a good blog, aptly written to resound thoughts that have been reverberating in my mind.

for which, i'm also too tired to type.

"thank goodness for confidants that I don’t honest deserve in my life.

On our death-bed, we can never bring our achievements anywhere. Maybe our achievements might grant us a comfortable death or a glorious funeral, but bottom-line; We die naked and with no possessions. Shouldn’t we then consider matters that could impact beyond our lifetime? I believe we all need to give back to society, to support one another and to leave a legacy that will inspire the generations after us.

In totality, I see a silver lining up ahead. Training is never fun. Mistakes and frustration seems to be so inter-laced; falling down, distractions are almost a certainty.

But in the end, it will all be alright. If its not alright, then its not the end.

Sounds almost too good to be true eh? Well, it most probably is by my own strength.

Let’s see how things unfold."

social darwinism

Conflict is in fact the basic law of life in all social organisms, as it is of all biological ones; societies are formed, gain strength, and move forwards through conflict; the healthiest and most vital of them assert themselves against the weakest and less well adapted through conflict; the natural evolution of nations and races takes place through conflict. -Alfredo Rocco

Ash miliu tave

the first encounter with one whose life i did not know,

but with whom i shared his last journey

took a quick glance into the rear-view mirror whilst driving my car to the columbarium.

was greeted with the sight of a man

with gel-slicked black hair

a nice black suit, tie and a white collared shirt

in a festoon of chysanthemum flowers framing that photo

along the winding bends towards his final destination

i was tailed by a hearse.

--the commas in life--

throw the convocation hat and continue the paper chase

the budding of new experiences

the flight of wings

the tenderness of warmth

looking at the familiarity of life, with new eyes

ignorance

Sono molto piace ascolta la musica l'italiano. In particolare Madeletta Primavera! Goda!

-queer inhabitant's playlist-

bye bye summer fun - santa monica!

the power or ignorance of being

a ludicrous performance eliciting derision from an unaligned outsider. i'm the unaligned outsider, and am glad to remain that way.

the brain is a malleable entity, both physiologically and psychologically. lewd imaginations frequently give rise to the creation of some of the world's best theories, principles and beliefs. the power of persuasion and the cruel effects of brainwashing have been the forerunners of everything we know and acknowledge. the evolution of history, language, and the existence of humankind are but mere biased interpretations of bygone beings and influences. our minds create problems and hopes. the ego, id and ed, are scary reminders of the bizarre ways that the brain regulates our behaviours, our consequential actions and the solaces that keep us going, generation after generation.

our minds create guilt. being social creatures, guilt begets the need to be forgiven, for the ultimate need to be loved and accepted. our minds create aspirations; "if we could save time in a bottle, if words could make wishes come true." we fill our bottled lives with insatiable hope, which viciously gives us faith. we seek interventions when desires and wishes are not humanly attained, and the amorphous faith comforts us with the possibility of a constant in an ever changing environment.

that we open our arms to religion during pivotal periods of our lives bears testament to our humanly need for protection, assurance and hope.

that such institutions command so much influence and power on their lay people, bears testament to the emptiness of our humanly existence, and a desperate need for tenets (created and shared by the human mind) to guide us through life. what do we live for?

that institutions are overflowing with funds and their grand scale constructions, bear testament to the commercialisation and economics of our "perceived tenets of life".

he/she who persuades and influences, COMMANDS.

that is our essential ignorance, and power.

myanmar's monks protest

The Patimokkha Rules on Bhikkhu (monks & nuns) etiquette, "Going to a battlefield, a roll call, an array of the troops in battle formation or to see a review of the battle units while one is staying with an army is a pacittiya offence." [Pac.50]

Burma's revered monks, messengers and embodiment of the teachings of Lord Buddha, have waged a brave peaceful protest against the repressive and violent junta.

correct me if i'm wrong; monkhood leads to a "total unbinding and without clinging" path, absolved from the strings of politics. bhikkus seek "knowledge and vision of things as they are, for the sake of disenchantment, disenchantment for the sake of release" (Parivara.XII.2)

y then, are they at the epicenter of the current political protest? knowing full well that their presence would spur the uproar of political dissent amongst the lay people, and the high possibility of bloodshed, unrest and distruction? clinging onto the unpleasantries and suffering of life.

on the other hand, if the monks persist in isolation and are totally absolved from the sufferings of the people they serve, then the spirit of compassion is dead.

the dalai lama offers his support to the monks, and appeals for peace - cnbc. click here to view

落地归根

arrivederci LA!

sunset at venice beach & parting shots of UCLA

in all, the month-and-a-half-long stay was fantastic. Cept for 2 gals who got on my nerves 24-7 (and whom i distanced myself from for the last 2 weeks of my stay.. a much needed reprieve!), the experience couldn't have been any better!

i miss my soho lifestyle, the climate, the lush greenary, my classmates, the fantastic shopping, the colourful characters along the streets of Hollywood, SANTA MONICA, the majestic buildings in campus, having dinner in our group of 7-8 (lionel & yf, pls send me the photos), and even the slopes. heck! i even miss describing singapore to my classmates!

a dose of patriotism

cliche as it may sound, living overseas has made me appreciate the little comforts of living in singapore. the general efficiency of our bus/transport system (at least we don't hafta wait 2 hours, in the cold, for a bus), gun-free streets, well-lit allies and few homeless people on the streets.

---

this yr's ndp song spends 2 of 4 stanzas talking about places other than home. i think i get their message: cosmopolitan yet grounded, 落地归根 ; But not all singaporeans can relate to this song.

Ho tornata.
